Barry Morphew, who was free on $3 million bond in connection with his wife's alleged killing, was arrested Friday after prosecutors said he was involved in a hit-and-run crash with two other vehicles in Denver.
Morphew was booked into the Boulder County Jail. Alamosa County District Judge Amanda Hopkins is scheduled to hold a hearing Tuesday to discuss Morphew's bond.
Under the terms of his bond, Morphew was restricted from traveling away from his southern Colorado home except for work and other limited circumstances. Prosecutors stated in a court filing that his trip to Denver International Airport on Aug. 28, possibly to pick up his daughter, constituted a breach of his bond conditions.
Morphew has pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial next summer in the death of his wife, Suzanne Morphew, who disappeared in 2020. Her skeletal remains were discovered in 2023. Although charges against Barry Morphew were initially dropped, he was later re-arrested and charged with first-degree murder in his wife's death.
Investigators reportedly found no signs of trauma on Suzanne Morphew's remains. However, prosecutors allege traces of a drug cocktail used to tranquilize wildlife were found in her bone marrow. According to the allegations, Barry Morphew was the only person in the area, aside from wildlife officials, authorized to use these chemicals.
Morphew's attorneys did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
