Raymond Williams has been found guilty of murdering his estranged wife, Tania Williams. The court heard that Williams tracked her down on a night out with friends before carrying out the fatal attack.
This incident follows a previous allegation where Williams reportedly threatened and assaulted Tania in April 2019. That investigation was discontinued when she withdrew her complaint, according to police.
Tania Williams was a volunteer at an Oxfam charity shop and was described by colleagues as "the sort of person you instantly remembered." In a Facebook post that garnered over a thousand likes, the shop shared that Tania "was wonderful: the kindest, most caring person you could meet." They added that she was "so full of positive energy, warmth and joy that it is very difficult to comprehend what has happened."
The rector of Thorpe St Andrew Church, Reverend James Stewart, stated that Tania "very much became part of our church community" and that the news of her death was "very, very devastating."
More than 200 people attended Tania's funeral, with tributes pouring in following her murder.
Senior Investigating Officer Det Insp Sam Pontin commended Tania's family for their "remarkable strength and dignity throughout this investigation and trial." He added that they "have supported the investigation from the very beginning and have endured the extremely difficult process of hearing the evidence presented in court."
Williams is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25.
