A jury has found James McKenna, 57, guilty of attempted murder after he repeatedly stabbed his ex-partner, Joanne Sidaway, 49, in Carmarthen Park.

The attack occurred on January 29, after which McKenna fled the scene, initiating a four-day manhunt. Sidaway sustained stab wounds to her chest and called for an ambulance, stating she had been stabbed by her ex-partner and that he had been stalking her. At Swansea Crown Court, the jury heard that Sidaway's survival was attributed to luck and the protection offered by her winter coat.

McKenna was apprehended at Bronglais Hospital in Aberystwyth, Ceredigion, where he was seeking medical treatment for suspected frostbite. He had been hiding in nearby woodlands for three days without food or water. McKenna had previously entered a guilty plea for wounding with intent in relation to the incident.
