Authorities are investigating the death of a man found with multiple stab wounds in a luxury apartment building in Long Island City, Queens. The victim was discovered sitting upright in a bathtub on Saturday afternoon.
Police responded to the Hayden high-rise building at approximately 1 p.m. after security personnel investigating a fire alarm on the roof encountered a naked man attempting to disable surveillance cameras with a fire extinguisher and trying to gain entry into an apartment. This individual was taken into custody by the NYPD.
Upon checking the apartment the man attempted to enter, officers made a grim discovery. Blood was present in both the bedroom and the bathroom, where the victim was found deceased. The victim sustained numerous stab wounds to his head, face, and chest and was pronounced dead at the scene.
While no charges have been filed, the man in custody is considered a person of interest in connection with the death. The motive behind the crime remains unclear. The building, known as The Hayden, is a 51-unit structure located in Court Square. Two-bedroom apartments in the building are listed for rents exceeding $6,000 per month. The victim has not yet been identified pending notification of his family.
