A 28-year-old man died after being struck by a tractor trailer while fleeing from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations agents in St. Augustine, Florida, authorities reported Tuesday.

The man was one of four occupants in a vehicle that stopped at a gas station and convenience store parking lot before 7 a.m. According to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Dylan Bryan, the four individuals fled on foot when approached by agents. The man who was killed ran across a busy road and into the path of an oncoming semi-trailer truck.

The driver of the truck stopped at the scene and attempted to provide aid to the man. The incident marks the third death in approximately a week involving individuals during encounters with ICE agents. Previous fatalities occurred in Texas and Maine, reportedly involving shootings.

Neither ICE nor the Department of Homeland Security immediately responded to requests for comment from The Associated Press.
