A man died after firing an AR-15-style rifle at homes in a Las Vegas neighborhood before being taken into custody by police. The incident unfolded on Yellowhammer Place in North Las Vegas on July 19.
Surveillance video captured a shirtless Daniel Lujan Jr., 39, running through the neighborhood and firing the rifle at houses. One homeowner shared footage showing Lujan ringing her doorbell before continuing to shoot at nearby homes. The homeowner, who was not home with her 1-year-old child at the time, stated that several bullets struck her house, including one that penetrated a wall and entered her kitchen.
Another neighbor, Ryan Adams, initially mistook the weapon for a water gun but realized it was a rifle as the man approached. Adams shared a video from inside his home showing the man firing at houses.
Police reported that Lujan initially resisted arrest. He was taken into custody and later died at a hospital. The cause of death has not been released. Authorities believe Lujan may have been under the influence of a substance at the time of the incident.
