Man Fatally Stabbed on NYC Subway During Rush Hour Argument

A 59-year-old man was fatally stabbed during an argument aboard a southbound J Train as it approached the Woodhaven Boulevard station in Queens on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred around 5:20 p.m. during the busy rush hour.

According to authorities, the suspect and victim engaged in a heated exchange before the suspect used a sharp object to stab the victim. The assailant then fled the train at the Woodhaven Boulevard station. Law enforcement sources indicated that a knife, appearing to be serrated, was recovered at the scene along with scattered, bloodied clothing on the platform.

Surveillance footage captured individuals exiting the subway station following the attack. A man dressed in a black sweatshirt, black sweatpants, black shoes, and a balaclava was seen on video moving across the street from the station. Others in the vicinity pursued him.

Police apprehended an individual later Wednesday evening, though it was not immediately confirmed if this person was the same suspect seen fleeing. Emergency medical services transported the critically injured victim to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's identity is being withheld pending family notification.

As a result of the investigation, northbound J trains bypassed the Woodhaven Boulevard station.
