Man Fatally Stabbed in Queens by Stranger
A 29-year-old man died after being repeatedly stabbed by an assailant on a Jamaica, Queens street where his family has lived for decades.
A 29-year-old man was fatally stabbed on a Queens street early Saturday by a stranger who confronted him and his father, according to police and the victim's father.
Sulimon Ferrier was walking with his father on Jamaica Avenue near 175th Street in Jamaica around 1 a.m. when an unidentified man approached them. The father, Peter Ferrier, told The New York Post that the assailant seemed intent on starting a fight. "He wanted to fight somebody … and we tell him, ‘Don’t make no trouble on this block, man,’" Peter Ferrier recounted. The family has lived in the neighborhood since 2002.
The assailant responded, “F you, I make trouble anyway,” according to Peter Ferrier. The father and son attempted to cross the street to de-escalate the situation, but the attacker pursued them, brandishing a knife he pulled from his waistband.
During the altercation, Sulimon Ferrier was stabbed in the chest. As the two fell to the ground, the attacker then stabbed Ferrier again in the back. The victim then ran into a nearby bar, Seduction, where he collapsed. His mother, who was downstairs, was alerted by her son, who stated he could not breathe.
She attempted to treat the chest wound but did not immediately notice the stab wound to his back. Sulimon Ferrier was transported to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His father believes the stab wound to the back was fatal, stating that the injury punctured his son's lungs.
"He didn’t survive the stabbing because it punctured his lungs," Peter Ferrier said. "We all have to face death and I believe in that."
Police are investigating the incident and believe a dispute led to the stabbing. There have been no arrests. Authorities described the suspect as a man with a slim build, wearing a black skull cap, a gold chain, a blue T-shirt, navy blue sweatpants with white stripes, and white sneakers.
