Man Fatally Shot in Melbourne's North, Police Launch Manhunt

An urgent police manhunt is underway after a man was gunned down and killed in Melbourne's north in a suspected targeted attack. Emergency services were called to Mahoneys Road in Reservoir shortly before midnight on Tuesday following reports of a shooting.

The man, who has not yet been formally identified, could not be revived at the scene. Homicide detectives are treating his death as suspicious.

"At this stage, police are investigating if the incident was targeted," a police statement read. "The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remains ongoing."

Sources indicate the shooting may have hallmarks of an underworld hit. Detectives are also investigating a potential link to a burnt-out car found on Robinvale Avenue in nearby Thomastown a short time later. The individuals who set that vehicle alight are believed to have fled in a white car.

Police examined both the Reservoir shooting location and the Thomastown scene for much of the night. Mahoneys Road was closed in both directions overnight but has since reopened. The gunman remains at large.

Authorities are appealing to the public for any information or relevant footage. Anyone with details is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
