London police have launched a murder investigation after a 40-year-old man was fatally shot during a memorial service on Friday evening. The incident occurred at approximately 7:45 p.m. in the East Acton area.

Up to 50 people, including children, had gathered for the service when the shooting took place. Officers responded to reports of multiple gunshots heard by members of the public at the junction of Braybrook Street and Erconwald Street. Despite the efforts of emergency medical services, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family has been notified and is being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to determine the official cause of death, though preliminary findings suggest a gunshot wound.

The Metropolitan Police stated that no arrests have been made as of Saturday afternoon, but detectives are actively working to understand the full circumstances of the shooting. A crime scene remains in place on Braybrook Street.

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie is leading the investigation and appealed for witnesses. He specifically requested information from anyone who was in the vicinity of Erconwald Street, Braybrook Street, surrounding roads, or Wormwood Scrubs playground between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Friday. Investigators are seeking details about suspicious individuals, vehicles, or any footage captured on mobile phones, dashcams, or doorbells that could be relevant.

"However insignificant it may seem, the smallest piece of information could prove crucial in helping us establish what happened and identify those responsible," DCI Howie stated.

The junction where the shooting occurred is located near the Old Oak community center.
