A knife-wielding man identified as Faryeshyi Allahdin, 23, was fatally shot by police after he launched a violent, random attack on a mother and her daughter in their Foothill Farms, California garage. The incident occurred on July 15, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO).
Both victims, a 63-year-old mother and her 26-year-old daughter, sustained multiple stab wounds and cuts. They were transported to a local hospital and are reported to be in stable condition.
The attack began earlier that morning when a man matching Allahdin's description entered a Starbucks, armed with a kitchen knife, and threatened employees. Witnesses reported the man appeared to be experiencing distress and had a bandaged stomach.
Shortly after fleeing the Starbucks, home security footage captured Allahdin sprinting through a neighborhood before appearing to stab himself in the stomach several times. A deputy responding to the scene spotted a man matching the description.
As officers approached, Allahdin ran into an open garage where the mother was getting into her car. He immediately attacked her from behind, stabbing her multiple times. Her daughter, who was also in the garage, heard her mother's screams and intervened. In an attempt to save her mother, the daughter pushed Allahdin off, but he then turned and violently attacked her, stabbing her multiple times.
Dashcam footage from a deputy arriving at the scene captured the ongoing assault. The deputy entered the garage, ordering Allahdin to drop his weapon as he continued to attack the daughter. The deputy fired his handgun multiple times. Allahdin was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. No deputies were injured.
SCSO spokesperson Sergeant Edward Igoe stated that there was no known relationship between the suspect and the victims, describing the attack as one where the assailant saw an open garage and a random victim. "Stranger attacks like this are very, very uncommon," Igoe said. "It's unfortunate. Obviously, we have an issue with some of our transient population in the area. Is that a factor? Are drugs a factor? Is mental health a factor? That is obviously going to be part of our investigation."
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau and Professional Standards Division are investigating the incident, with an independent review by the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office also to be conducted.
