Dolars Aleksanders, a 23-year-old Latvian national, has been extradited from Latvia to the United Kingdom and charged with causing death by dangerous driving, according to West Midlands Police. The charges stem from the death of 12-year-old Keaton Slater, who was struck by a black BMW on June 14, 2024, while walking home from school in Coventry.

Aleksanders was taken into custody upon his arrival in the UK on Wednesday and is scheduled to appear before Birmingham Magistrates Court on Thursday. Efforts to bring Aleksanders back to the UK were initiated shortly after the incident when he was identified as a person of interest by police. He was flown into Gatwick Airport before being transported to a custody facility in the West Midlands.

British and Latvian authorities, in conjunction with international agencies, collaborated to facilitate Aleksanders' return to face legal proceedings in a UK court, stated Ben Samples, a spokesperson for the Crown Prosecution Service.
