A man has been extradited to Britain and charged in connection with the death of a 12-year-old boy who was killed in a hit-and-run incident over two years ago. Dolars Aleksanders, a 23-year-old Latvian national, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
Keaton Slater died in June 2024 after being struck by a black BMW on Radford Road in Coventry. The collision occurred more than two years prior to Aleksanders' extradition and charging. He was detained last month and transported to the UK, arriving at Gatwick Airport on Wednesday. Aleksanders was subsequently remanded into custody in the West Midlands and is scheduled to appear at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.
West Midlands Police stated that they worked with various agencies, including the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and the National Crime Agency (NCA), to bring Aleksanders back to the UK. The CPS confirmed that prosecutors determined there was sufficient evidence to pursue criminal proceedings. The CPS West Midlands collaborated with multiple UK and Latvian authorities, Europol, and the Joint International Crime Centre to facilitate Aleksanders' return to face charges in a UK court.
Keaton's mother, Louise Slater, described her son as a "fun-loving, little joker" who "made everyone laugh all the time." She expressed the family's devastation following the incident, stating, "We were a family of five but now we are four. Our lives will never be the same again." She appealed for anyone with information to come forward to help achieve justice for her son.
