A man has died and a woman is in critical condition following a collision that occurred during a police pursuit near Stratford-upon-Avon in Warwickshire on Tuesday evening. The incident began shortly before 5:25 p.m. when officers attempted to stop a black Audi on Birmingham Road. The driver of the Audi failed to stop and fled the scene, heading towards the A46 before turning back towards Stratford on the A439.
At approximately 5:44 p.m., the Audi collided with a white Ford Puma. The male driver of the Audi was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the Ford sustained critical injuries and was transported to a hospital.
Warwickshire Police confirmed that both families have been informed and are receiving support from specialist officers. Superintendent Steve Flavell stated, "Our thoughts are with the families of everyone involved in this collision and we're providing specialist support to them at this extremely difficult time." He added that a mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to the death occurring after police contact. The IOPC has initiated an independent investigation, and the police department has pledged full cooperation.
