A 20-year-old man died Monday in a fall from South Falls at Silver Falls State Park in Oregon. The incident occurred after the visitor reportedly went off-trail to take a photo, crossing a barrier and a creek above the waterfall.

Authorities said the man was visiting from out of state. He fell into the pool at the base of the 177-foot waterfall around 6:30 p.m. Bystanders attempted CPR as emergency responders arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.

Silver Falls State Park, located south of Portland, is known for its Trail of Ten Falls, a popular hiking route.
