A man died after falling from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon, authorities confirmed. Four other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.

Witnesses reported that the man was ejected from the ride and subsequently struck various parts of the roller coaster before falling. One witness told Atlanta NBC affiliate 11 Alive that the man's body hit other guests before landing on another attraction below.

The Goliath roller coaster is described on the Six Flags website as a "hypercoaster" that reaches speeds of up to 70 mph and heights of 200 feet.

Following the incident, Six Flags evacuated the ride and surrounding areas of the park. A park spokesperson stated that the park and local authorities responded immediately and that Six Flags is cooperating fully with the investigation. "We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today," the spokesperson said.

Officials have not yet confirmed the cause of the fall or the specific injuries sustained by the other riders. Detectives from Cobb County's major crimes unit are investigating the incident.

This event follows previous scrutiny of Six Flags parks regarding rider injuries. In a separate incident last month, Six Flags Magic Mountain in California announced it was retiring its X2 roller coaster amidst lawsuits alleging serious injuries. The company recently settled a wrongful-death lawsuit related to a 2022 incident on that ride and is facing additional lawsuits for alleged traumatic brain injuries.

Last year, a man died from blunt impact injuries after riding a roller coaster at Universal Epic Universe in Florida. That death was ruled accidental.
