A 30-year-old man has died from a traumatic brain injury sustained at the Vans Warped Tour concert in Long Beach, California, on July 26. David Granado Jr. was pronounced dead on Thursday, August 2, after spending several days on life support.
The Long Beach Police Department stated that a preliminary investigation did not indicate any signs of foul play. The county medical examiner's office will determine the official cause of death as the investigation continues. Granado Jr.'s family is working to piece together the events leading up to his hospitalization.
According to his brother, Alejandro Granado, David Granado Jr. was last seen around 5 p.m. after being separated from his group. He reportedly walked himself to the medical tent and was admitted to a local emergency room shortly after 8 p.m. He underwent multiple surgeries.
"We're just trying to find out if he was hit or if he fell from heat exhaustion/dehydration," Alejandro Granado wrote on Facebook.
Footage from the event showed Granado Jr. in the middle of a mosh pit, appearing to struggle with his balance without his glasses. One attendee's comment suggested Granado Jr. was assisting others in the mosh pit while someone was being helped off the ground in front of him.
Granado Jr. had been at the concert with his girlfriend, brother, and friends. His mother, Barbara Granado, confirmed he was on life support for multiple days before his passing.
