Man Critically Injured After Intervening in Alleged Car Break-in
A father of two is in a critical condition after attempting to stop teenagers from breaking into a vehicle in Melbourne.
A 41-year-old man, identified as Colin Sheean, is in an induced coma and fighting for his life after being stabbed twice while intervening in an alleged car break-in. The incident occurred in Langwarrin, a southeastern suburb of Melbourne, early Saturday morning.
Sheean was reportedly riding his scooter home around 12:20 a.m. when he observed three teenagers attempting to break into a car on Govan Street. According to reports, when Sheean attempted to intervene, the teenagers allegedly stabbed him twice before fleeing the scene. The neighbor who witnessed part of the altercation stated that one of the teenagers was injured during the confrontation.
Sheean was transported to The Alfred hospital in a critical condition. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to support his family, noting that he lost his wife five years prior to a sudden cardiac arrest, leaving him as the sole provider for their two daughters, aged 14 and 11.
"He is going to be off work for a long time and there are going to be significant medical expenses so this money would be a big help for them," the fundraiser states, describing Sheean as someone who "would do anything for anyone" and has "a heart of gold."
Police arrested two 16-year-old boys and one 17-year-old shortly after the incident. They have been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and other offenses, and were scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.
