A man convicted of causing the death of his seven-month-old daughter in a car crash has evaded capture, while a woman has been arrested on suspicion of assisting him. Emmanuel Sakyi was found guilty in his absence of causing death by dangerous driving and sentenced to 15 years in prison on June 29.
Sakyi was driving a grey Peugeot 508 when it collided with a green Fiat 500 between two roundabouts. His infant daughter, Emmanuela, who was a passenger, sustained fatal injuries and died in hospital from blunt force abdominal trauma. During the trial, it was heard that Sakyi had driven for a considerable distance on the wrong side of the road and failed to respond to warnings from the oncoming Fiat driver.
Following the crash, Sakyi fled the scene on foot. His associate, Ruth Oppong, 34, was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison, suspended for two years, after being convicted of aiding and abetting causing death by dangerous driving and causing unnecessary suffering or injury to a child.
The investigation and subsequent trial took place at Aylesbury Crown Court. Police are actively searching for Sakyi.
