A man accused of repeatedly stealing meat from a petrol station, by concealing it within his trousers, has been charged with shoplifting. The suspect, identified as Haydon Lucas, 30, allegedly targeted a BP station in Newbury, Berkshire.

Police have dubbed Lucas the 'Sausage Smuggler' after CCTV footage reportedly showed him stuffing packs of sausages down his clothing before leaving the premises without payment. The alleged thefts occurred multiple times, initially weekly and later twice within a four-day period.

Lucas was arrested on October 6 following an investigation by the Newbury Neighbourhood Policing team. The total value of the stolen meat across the four alleged offenses is £594.75.

Thames Valley Police announced the charges in a statement, noting the unusual method of concealment. Lucas has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear at Slough Magistrates' Court on November 5.
