A man believed to be from Syria has been charged with murder after the body of a 52-year-old man was discovered in a wheelie bin in Plymouth. Mohamed Abotaka, 36, was arrested following the finding of Ali Barzai's body in West Hoe. Emergency services pronounced Mr. Barzai, believed to be of North African heritage, dead at the scene.

Abotaka is in police custody and is scheduled to appear at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on Monday. Following the discovery on Wednesday morning, nearby roads were cordoned off by Devon and Cornwall Police as forensic examinations and searches were conducted. Officers also carried out house-to-house inquiries in the surrounding area, and a significant police presence remained.

Detective Inspector Chris Lithgow urged the public not to speculate on the case, particularly on social media, to avoid prejudicing the ongoing proceedings. He stated that a heightened police presence would continue in the area for several days and encouraged any concerned members of the public to contact the authorities.
