Adam Olverson, 31, has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of his 75-year-old father, Thomas Olverson. The incident occurred on July 25, 2024, at Marsh Hey Farm in Scarisbrick, a rural area near Ormskirk, Lancashire.

Lancashire Police confirmed that Adam Olverson was re-arrested on Monday and subsequently charged with manslaughter, possession of a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license. He is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Preston on Wednesday.

Thomas Olverson was found deceased on the farm having sustained gunshot injuries. Authorities initially launched a murder inquiry and recovered a shotgun from the scene. Neighbors reported that Mr. Olverson was believed to have been sitting on a vintage tractor in a field at the time of the incident. Forensic officers were seen examining the tractor, which had been left in the middle of a field.

Adam Olverson was initially arrested on suspicion of murder and was later released on bail pending further investigation. The death of the elder Mr. Olverson, described by neighbors as an "old-fashioned farmer" who kept to himself, sent shockwaves through the local community.

One neighbor, Andrew Overton, who previously worked for Thomas Olverson, described him as a quiet individual who largely kept to himself. Another neighbor, Dennis Fullingham, recalled seeing Mr. Olverson Sr. working in his fields, harvesting cabbages. Thomas Olverson had lived on the farm for most of his life, along with his wife and son.
