A 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident where a police officer was stabbed in the neck and the suspect was shot by police. The alleged attack occurred in Adelaide's northern suburbs on Wednesday, reportedly after a man with a knife was seen running onto a major road.

During the confrontation, a female police officer sustained a serious neck wound. Another officer then shot the alleged assailant in the leg. The Woodville Gardens man faces a series of serious charges, including attempted murder, aggravated assault, and assault on a prescribed emergency worker.

Police Commissioner Grant Stevens stated on Thursday that the community expects violent offenders to be held accountable and that consequences should reflect the seriousness of the offenses. He emphasized the profound and lasting impact of such violence on officers, their families, and the wider policing community.

Both the accused man and the injured officer remain in hospital. The man is in intensive care, though his injuries are not considered life-threatening. The officer is being monitored for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to remain hospitalized for several more days as she recovers.

Investigators have not yet formally interviewed the suspect, as he has not yet been medically cleared. The area was heavily secured by police following the incident.
