Man Charged in London Anti-Semitic Attacks
A 33-year-old man faces assault charges following a series of attacks on Jewish women in north London.
A 33-year-old man has been charged with assault by beating after three Jewish women were attacked in north London on Monday. Abdisamad Siad, of Pilgrims Way, Islington, is scheduled to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court.
One of the alleged victims was seen on CCTV pushing a pram on Upper Clapton Road in Stamford Hill when a man reportedly ran up to her and punched her twice in the face. The woman, who was wearing traditional Jewish dress, fled the scene as bystanders pursued the man.
Police were called to Clapton Common around 1:40 p.m. on Monday following reports that a man had been detained by Shomrim, a local neighborhood watch organization. Shomrim posted CCTV footage online showing the alleged assault.
The group stated that they had already responded to a report of another visibly Jewish woman being punched in the face on Clapton Common earlier that day. Police arrived minutes later and detained Siad, who was subsequently charged.
The Metropolitan Police confirmed that patrols have been increased in the area and appealed for any other victims or witnesses to come forward. The incidents are being investigated as alleged anti-Semitic attacks, and victims sustained minor injuries.
In a separate, unrelated incident, Siad was also charged with grievous bodily harm with intent for an attack on a woman known to him in Islington on Friday, October 16. This incident is not being treated as anti-Semitic.
Chief Inspector Erica Crawshaw described the incident as "alarming and distressing" and expressed gratitude to Shomrim for detaining the suspect. "Anti-Semitic behaviour and hate crime of any kind will not be tolerated," she said, adding that increased patrols and engagement with community leaders were underway to provide reassurance.
Recent years have seen an increase in anti-Semitic incidents in the UK, particularly since the October 7 attacks in 2023 and subsequent actions in Gaza. Research indicated a significant rise in anti-Semitism in countries with large Jewish populations outside of Israel. In the first six months of 2026, reported anti-Semitic incidents rose by 21% compared to the previous year.
