Man Charged in Connection with Nottingham Police Officer Shooting

A man has been charged in connection with the shooting of a police officer in Nottingham city centre. Jahmal Ruddock-Senior, 35, faces a charge of assisting an offender following the injury of PC Lee Lane.

PC Lane sustained a gunshot wound to the foot on Sunday, October 18, at approximately 4:50 a.m. while approaching two individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior at a bus stop in Angel Row. The injury is described by Nottingham police and crime commissioner Gary Godden as "most likely to be life-altering." The officer has undergone surgery and remains hospitalized.

Ruddock-Senior, of Gaul Street in Bulwell, is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Monday, October 26. He was charged by Nottinghamshire Police in connection with the incident.

This development follows the arrest and charging of Aisha Zaman, 27, who appeared at Nottingham Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 23. Zaman, from Hyson Green, faces charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and possession of that firearm with intent to commit an indictable offense. She entered no plea and was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on November 11.

"Of course this incident is serious; it has made national news," stated defense solicitor Omar Banares in court, noting that Zaman does not face charges directly related to the firearm discharge or the officer's injury. She resides with her parents and younger sister.

Police have also arrested several other individuals in connection with the incident, who have since been released on bail pending further inquiries. These include a 24-year-old man, a 30-year-old man, and two women aged 25 and 21, all arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. A 33-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assisting an offender; she has since been bailed.

Police recovered a sawn-off shotgun from the scene in Angel Row, in the heart of the city

Detective Chief Superintendent Rich Bull, leading the investigation, expressed gratitude for the public's support. "The outpouring of support for the injured officer has been greatly appreciated," he stated. "We continue to support him as he undergoes further treatment in hospital and are keeping him and his family fully informed of the developments in this investigation. He has asked for privacy during this incredibly difficult time."

As the shot rings out, a man, left, wearing a bright yellow top, grey tracksuit trousers and white trainers, is captured sprinting up the road

Nottinghamshire Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them by calling 101, quoting incident number 106 of October 18, 2026, or to anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
