A man has devised a novel strategy to circumvent parking fees at Melbourne Airport, reportedly by fabricating a car part issue to extend his stay.

Taylar Holliday, a content creator, was waiting in his vehicle to pick up his sister when a security guard informed him he had exceeded the airport's strict one-minute time limit for pickup zones. In response, Holliday claimed his car had a problem with its "combobulator" and "denominator," terms he stated were inspired by an internet meme. He explained to the guard that these fictional components were malfunctioning, preventing the vehicle from moving.

The guard, apparently unfamiliar with the invented parts, allowed Holliday to attempt to fix the car for approximately an hour. The incident was later shared by Holliday on TikTok, where he suggested others could use the same tactic.

Melbourne Airport's official advice for drivers includes a free 60-minute waiting zone on Mercer Drive. For immediate drop-offs and pick-ups, a one-minute standing time limit is enforced across terminal pick-up zones. The airport also offers a Value Car Park at $17 per day and terminal car parks with the first 15 minutes free, with longer stays costing $34 for one to two hours.
