United States Capitol Police arrested a 35-year-old California man Tuesday afternoon after discovering a guillotine in the back of his pickup truck, which was parked illegally near the Supreme Court.
Philan-Tam-Duy Le, of Julian, California, was taken into custody on charges of carrying a dangerous weapon. According to a USCP statement, officers noticed the pickup truck parked illegally on the 100 block of East Capitol Street around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Upon closer inspection, they observed the guillotine, an instrument historically used for beheadings. The truck was parked just feet from the Supreme Court building and within close proximity to the U.S. Capitol and the Library of Congress.
USCP investigators are currently examining the suspect's background to determine the motive for his travel to Washington, D.C., and the reason for the guillotine being in his vehicle.
