A Somali man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a stabbing incident at the Stanwell Hotel near Heathrow Airport.

Police were dispatched to the hotel in Stanwell around 6:30 p.m. on August 15, 2026, in response to reports of a stabbing. Officers apprehended a man in his 20s, identified by police as a Somali national, on suspicion of attempted murder. The victim was transported to a hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities stated they are not seeking any additional individuals in connection with the incident and urged the public to refrain from speculation. Emergency services were present in the area, prompting a statement from police shortly before 7:30 p.m. assuring the local community that the situation was under control.

The Stanwell Hotel began housing asylum seekers and their families in 2022. Plans have since been submitted to convert the building back into a hotel for business and leisure travelers, including those using Heathrow Airport. The proposals involve modernizing and refurbishing the 56-room hotel to accommodate 96 rooms, including extensions to the roof and a single-story addition.

If approved by Spelthorne Borough Council, the asylum seekers currently residing at the hotel would be required to relocate. The Home Office has previously expressed its commitment to ending the use of hotels for asylum seeker accommodation and is working to secure alternative housing solutions. Developers have stated that the proposed improvements aim to modernize the hotel and integrate it into the local economy. However, a former hotel worker earlier this year claimed that the hotel's use for asylum seeker accommodation had made some community members feel unsafe.

The Stanwell Hotel initially ceased public operations in 2022 when the Home Office announced its plan to use the premises for migrant housing.
