A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a fall from a balcony that left another man with life-threatening injuries. Police responded to reports of the fall at an apartment building on Liverpool Street in Salford shortly after midnight on Saturday.

Emergency services attended the scene and transported the injured man to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. A man in his 20s was taken into police custody for questioning.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to prior contact between the involved parties and the police. Investigators have been sent to the police post-incident procedures to gather more information, and the IOPC will assess a referral from Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in due course.

A blue forensic tent has been erected near the building. A local resident reported hearing sirens overnight and witnessing the aftermath being shared on social media. "I heard all the sirens, but I keep myself to myself so I didn't go out," the resident said. "I've seen it's all cordoned off and there's a blue forensics tent. It's sad, it's really sad. It's a bit close to home."

Chief Inspector Lee Gridley stated, "A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and he is currently being questioned in custody." He added, "Our officers are working at pace to establish the full circumstances, and a scene will remain in place whilst the investigation continues." Gridley also assured the community, "We understand that incidents of this nature may cause concern within the community, however we believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no wider risk to the public."
