Man Arrested on Nantucket on Multiple Felony Charges Including Child Trafficking

A 40-year-old man, Rigoberto Chavez-Regaldo, was arrested on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts on Thursday, October 8, in connection with alleged child trafficking and sexual abuse, according to the U.S. Marshals Service. The early morning operation involved multiple law enforcement agencies.

Chavez-Regaldo faces a series of felony charges, including trafficking a person for sexual servitude, sexual conduct for a fee, aggravated rape, aggravated statutory rape of a child, rape of a child with force, indecent assault and battery on a person over 14, enticing a child under 16, and selling/delivering liquor to a person under 21.

He was arraigned and ordered held without bail. A hearing to re-evaluate his bail status is scheduled for Tuesday.

Dennis Matulewicz, head of the U.S. Marshals Service for the District of Massachusetts, stated that allegations involving the sexual exploitation and trafficking of children are among the most disturbing. He emphasized the commitment of the U.S. Marshals Service and its partners to protecting young people and pursuing those who prey on them. Matulewicz highlighted the strength of interagency partnerships in this case and expressed thoughts for the affected children.

Authorities have indicated that further details will not be released to protect the identities of minor victims. The U.S. Marshals Service collaborated with the Brockton Police, Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, Massachusetts State Police Air Wing, and the Nantucket Police in conducting the arrest.
