Man Arrested on Bus for Dismembering British Pensioner

Marcin Majerkiewicz, 42, was arrested in April 2024 after being identified by police as a suspect in the murder and dismemberment of his housemate, Stuart Everett, 67. The arrest occurred when plain-clothes officers spotted Majerkiewicz boarding a bus in Salford, Greater Manchester, leading them to halt the vehicle and take him into custody. The investigation began on April 4, 2024, when a member of the public discovered a human torso wrapped in cling film at the Kersal Dale nature reserve.

CCTV footage showed an individual carrying a large bag into the nature reserve and leaving without it. Police identified this individual as Majerkiewicz and traced his movements through bus journey data. The footage of his arrest, featured in a Channel 5 documentary, shows Majerkiewicz appearing surprised and asking officers to double-check, stating, "It's definitely a mistake, 100 per cent."

Discovery of Remains and Investigation

Further investigation by officers revealed that Majerkiewicz had bludgeoned Mr. Everett with a hammer at the Salford home they shared in March 2024. He then used a hacksaw to dismember Mr. Everett's body into 27 pieces and flayed the face off the skull. Evidence of blood and attempted clean-up was found in Majerkiewicz's bedroom. Human remains were subsequently discovered at multiple sites across Salford and Manchester, including Linnyshaw Colliery Woods, Blackleach Reservoir, Worsley Woods, and Boggart Hole Clough.

Motive and Conviction

Majerkiewicz, who reportedly had an obsession with horror films and a tattoo of the character Jason from 'Friday the 13th', had plundered Mr. Everett's bank accounts. The murder was described by the trial judge as pre-planned and for financial gain, intended to settle Majerkiewicz's significant debts, which amounted to £60,000 in loan debt and £14,000 on credit cards. Mr. Everett, a retired civil servant, was known to his family as 'Benny' and had been living in the Winton property since 2013, sub-letting rooms to Polish men, including Majerkiewicz.

Majerkiewicz initially denied responsibility but did not offer evidence in his defense at trial. He was convicted of murder at Manchester Crown Court in March 2025 and subsequently jailed for life with a minimum term of 34 years. He had attempted to deceive Mr. Everett's family by using his finances and mobile phone to send messages and a birthday card, and was searching online for properties in Spain before his arrest. Mr. Everett's family did not know he was dead until the investigation began.
