Man Arrested Near Florida Democrat Jared Moskowitz's Home on Threat Charges
A constituent accused of threatening the life of U.S. Representative Jared Moskowitz has been apprehended near his Florida residence.
A constituent accused of threatening the life of U.S. Representative Jared Moskowitz has been arrested near his home in Boca Raton, Florida. The Florida Democrat, who is currently in a closely watched congressional race, announced the arrest on social media Thursday afternoon.
Moskowitz stated that the suspect was taken into custody a few miles from his residence. "A constituent of mine has just been arrested in Boca, just a few miles from my house, for threatening my life. He is currently in the Palm Beach County jail," Moskowitz wrote on social media.
He expressed gratitude to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and local law enforcement for their swift action in ensuring his and his family's safety. The arrest comes after an effort by the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican PAC, to unseat Moskowitz was abandoned this week.
Moskowitz, who is Jewish, was previously the target of a gunman in 2024 who lived less than ten miles from his Florida home. The representative has voiced concerns about the escalating threats against political figures. "Someone’s gonna get killed here. It almost was me," Moskowitz told The Wall Street Journal last year, amid ongoing debates about lawmaker safety on Capitol Hill following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
As a moderate Jewish Democrat, Moskowitz represents a demographic that has faced targeting from both the left and the right. Earlier this year, he successfully fended off a primary challenge from progressive organizer Oliver Larkin, who had received backing from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
