A 58-year-old man, Michael Foster, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with murder and manslaughter in the shooting death of his niece, Julia Anderson, 39. The incident occurred Monday night on a Bronx street, according to authorities and law enforcement sources.
Police responded to a 911 call and found Anderson on Murdock Avenue in the Wakefield section of the Bronx, where she was discovered lying on the ground next to her black Jeep. Sources indicated that she was shot multiple times in the stomach as she was attempting to enter her vehicle. Anderson was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
Investigators believe a dispute over an inherited home may have precipitated the fatal shooting. Foster and Anderson reportedly lived in the same residence in Mount Vernon, according to the New York Post.
On Wednesday night, members of the NYPD’s Crime Scene Unit were observed at a Bell Avenue home in Mount Vernon, which is associated with the pair. Evidence, including what appeared to be a gun box, was collected from the property.
Foster faces charges including murder, manslaughter, and 10 counts of criminal possession of a weapon. He was awaiting arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court.
Anderson, who was a disability aide, was reportedly about a month away from her 40th birthday, according to her mother, Beverley Patterson, who spoke with Fox5. Patterson described her daughter as a kind person who went to work and never returned.
