Man Arrested for Wife's Murder After Claiming ICE Abducted Her
Authorities discovered burned remains and inconsistencies in the husband's account.
A California man has been arrested for the murder of his wife, after initially claiming that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken her into custody. Jasmine Gill, 30, was reported missing on October 4, last seen at her Sacramento home on September 30.
Her husband, Gurinder Singh Gill, 28, told authorities that ICE agents had apprehended his wife as she was checking the mail. However, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office contacted ICE, which stated that no enforcement activity had occurred at the couple's residence. Detectives also learned that the couple was in the process of divorcing and engaged in a child custody dispute.
Further investigation revealed several inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill's account of his wife's disappearance. On October 1, burned human remains were discovered in El Dorado County, which were later identified as Jasmine Gill's.
Gurinder Singh Gill was arrested on Wednesday and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on murder charges. He is currently being held without bail, according to county records. He was arraigned on Friday afternoon, but no future court dates were immediately listed.
Jasmine Gill was described as 5-foot-3, approximately 137 pounds, and was last seen wearing white pajamas with red polka dots. A GoFundMe fundraiser established by her family states that she was a registered nurse and the mother of an eight-month-old baby. The fundraiser aims to help with legal assistance for child custody and to cover the costs of sending Jasmine's body back to India for her family.
As of Saturday night, the fundraiser had garnered approximately $6,000. The Daily Mail has reached out to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office for further comment.
