San Jose police have arrested a man suspected of installing a hidden camera in a Starbucks restroom and recording at least two individuals. Authorities are concerned the suspect may have committed similar acts at other locations.

The device was discovered on June 9 by an employee at the Starbucks located at 181 East Santa Clara Street. Investigators with the San Jose Police Department's Sexual Assaults Investigation Unit believe the camera was placed under a sink and was active for approximately 30 minutes, recording two patrons.

"It captured two victims, a middle-aged adult female victim, and then an older adult male victim," police spokeswoman Stacie Shih told KTVU. "So if you believe you were a victim of this incident, please contact our detectives."

Investigators identified and apprehended a suspect, identified as 38-year-old David Perales of San Jose, on July 2. He was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on a charge of invasion of privacy.

Police are exploring the possibility that Perales may have targeted other public establishments, given the nature of the crime. "Anyone who has an ill intention of invading anyone’s privacy could target any business, any location," Shih stated.

Starbucks released a statement affirming its full cooperation with law enforcement. "This is a deeply disturbing incident, and we are grateful for the quick and thorough response from the San Jose Police Department. We cannot overstate the importance of providing a safe environment for our customers and partners (employees)," the company said.

San Jose police are urging anyone who believes they may have been a victim to contact the department. The incident has raised concerns among local residents about using public restrooms.
