Man Arrested for Allegedly Wielding Knife on Michael B. Jordan Film Set

The filming of Michael B. Jordan's upcoming movie, "Miami Vice '85," was disrupted Friday evening when a man allegedly wielded a knife on set. The New York Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 11:15 p.m. following a verbal dispute.

Alex Perez, 23, was identified as the individual who displayed a knife, causing another person to feel fearful for their safety. Law enforcement arrived at the scene and apprehended Perez without any injuries reported, according to the NYPD. The knife was also recovered.

Perez was subsequently arrested and charged with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. It remains unclear if Jordan, 39, was present on set at the time of the disturbance.

A video circulating online appears to show Perez being escorted off the set by a staff member, at which point he reportedly pulled a butcher knife from his sweatshirt pocket. An officer is then seen placing Perez in handcuffs in the clip.

"Miami Vice '85," an action thriller and reboot of the classic 1980s series, is currently in production and scheduled for a May 19, 2028, release. The film stars Jordan as Detective Tubbs and Austin Butler as Detective Crockett, with the premise involving the vice detectives going undercover to dismantle criminal enterprises in southern Florida. The cast also includes Walton Goggins, John Leguizamo, Haley Lu Richardson, Camila Morrone, Dominic Sessa, and Danny Ramirez.

Leguizamo, who had a minor role in the original "Miami Vice" series, is set to play a more prominent role in the reboot. He recently shared with People magazine that the original series provided his "first check" when he was struggling financially, making his return in a leading capacity nearly 40 years later "pretty exciting."

Butler spoke to Elle in June about his involvement, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to work with Jordan and director Joseph Kosinski, whom he described as a "visionary."

Jordan has had a notable year, having won the Best Actor Oscar in March for his performance in "Sinners." His other upcoming projects include "I Am Legend 2" and "The Thomas Crown Affair." However, Jordan recently told Vogue that he plans to take a break in 2027 to reflect and process his recent career achievements, indicating a desire to slow down after a period of continuous work.
