A 33-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing his father to death inside his Long Island apartment on Labor Day. Police responded to a call at approximately 12:30 a.m. on Monday at the Mastic residence of Edward Brown, 69.

According to Suffolk County prosecutors, Sage Arias-Brown, the victim's son, gained entry into the apartment and proceeded to stab his father multiple times in the abdomen and chest. A witness reportedly heard the son breaking into the apartment and heard the father screaming for help before the witness saw the suspect exit the building.

Despite his injuries, Edward Brown was able to reach a phone and call 911 to report the attack before collapsing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators said details surrounding the confrontation leading to the violence remain unclear.

Arias-Brown was apprehended by police a short distance from his father's apartment. He pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder. His attorney stated that Arias-Brown has a history of mental illness and an open robbery case. He was remanded without bail and is scheduled to return to court on Friday.
