Man Arrested for Alleged Pug Abuse Caught on Camera
Surveillance footage leads to the arrest of a California man accused of animal cruelty.
A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Huntington Beach, California, after surveillance video captured him allegedly abusing a pug. William Kenneth Slocum, of Desert Hot Springs, was taken into custody following the incident at a marina.
The alleged abuse was recorded by Secure Tel LLC, a remote monitoring company. The company's owner, Steve Tripp, called the police after observing the footage, which he stated showed the dog in distress.
The video reportedly shows Slocum hoisting the pug by its leash, restricting its airway, and then sitting down with the animal. Tripp told KTLA that the dog displayed signs of physical trauma, including a crooked gait and its tongue hanging out. The footage also allegedly shows Slocum striking the animal multiple times after sitting down, and exhibiting erratic behavior such as licking his hands.
Following the alleged assault, Slocum is seen tying the dog to a gate, where it paced in circles. Police arrived at the scene and arrested Slocum, who now faces a felony charge of intentional animal cruelty. He was booked on September 20 at 1:05 a.m., according to Huntington Beach police arrest records.
Secure Tel LLC shared their involvement on Instagram, emphasizing their commitment to public safety, including the protection of animals. The company stated, "From vandals, thieves, to now animal abusers, Secure Tel remains dedicated to keeping people, property, and animals safe."
The pug was transferred to Orange County Animal Care. Authorities have not yet released any updates on the animal's medical condition.
