Man Arrested for 2025 Synagogue Incident After Evading Subway Fare

A Philadelphia man sought for over a year for allegedly barging into a Manhattan synagogue and shouting "Allahu Akbar" was arrested Wednesday after attempting to evade subway fare, law enforcement sources said.

Shear Nobles, 48, was apprehended by police at Fulton Street in Lower Manhattan while attempting to duck under a turnstile, according to the sources. Nobles had been wanted since July 21, 2025, when he allegedly entered the Shuva Israel synagogue on East 58th Street during an evening service.

Police stated that Nobles, who had no known connection to the synagogue, began recording without authorization and made the statement before fleeing on foot. He was charged with aggravated harassment and disruption of a religious service.

Sources indicated that Nobles has no prior arrests in New York City but has a record in Philadelphia dating back approximately two decades, including arrests for robbery, burglary, and retail crime offenses.
