Armed police apprehended a man following a machete attack in Boscombe Chine Gardens, Bournemouth, Dorset, on October 1, 2026. The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. when one man allegedly struck another over the head with a long blade.
The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which police stated are not considered life-threatening. The arrested individual was escorted from the hotel and placed into a police van. The Chine Hotel is one of three establishments in the Bournemouth area that the Home Office has contracted to house asylum seekers.
Historically, the Victorian-era hotel was a popular destination, known for its sea views and adjacent public gardens. It has since been closed for years and repurposed as a migrant hotel by the Home Office. Reports indicate an increase in local crime, including assaults and drug-related activity, since the hotel began housing asylum seekers.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police confirmed the report of a man with a machete and the subsequent injury to an individual. The spokesperson added that a man was arrested on suspicion of causing attempted grievous bodily harm. Police indicated an increased presence in the area while the investigation continues to determine the full circumstances of the incident.
