A 38-year-old man is in custody following a stabbing incident outside a barber shop in Lalor Park, a western Sydney suburb, on Thursday morning. Emergency services responded to reports of a stabbing at a shopping center on Commercial Road around 11:15 a.m. local time.

Confronting CCTV footage captured the moment two men, believed to be neighbors, engaged in a physical altercation. The dispute escalated when one man produced a kitchen knife and stabbed the other in the neck. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to his back and was taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious condition. Bystanders assisted the injured man, moving him into a nearby barber shop while the alleged attacker fled the scene.

Riot squad officers were deployed to a unit block across the road from the shopping center to apprehend the suspect. After attempts at negotiation, officers breached the unit and took the 38-year-old man into custody. He was transported to Blacktown Police Station for questioning. As of Thursday evening, no charges had been filed.

Superintendent Brendan Gorman stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public and that police regularly conduct knife searches in the area. He urged the public to refrain from carrying knives unless lawfully permitted. Several items were seized from the scene for forensic analysis. Police are appealing for any witnesses or individuals with relevant footage to contact Blacktown Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
