Man and Woman Arrested in Ireland Arson Attack Killing Family of Four
Irish police arrest two individuals in connection with a petrol bomb attack that resulted in the deaths of a couple and their two young sons, with two other children in critical condition.
Irish police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with an arson attack that killed a mother, father, and their two sons. The victims, identified as Kim English, in her 30s, her husband Philip, in his 50s, and their sons Callum, 12, and Jayden, nine, died when a petrol bomb was thrown into their home early Tuesday morning in the Birchwood estate near Waterford city center.
Two other children of Philip and Kim English, Nadia, 14, and Elliot, six, remain in critical condition in a hospital.
Gardaí confirmed the arrests on Thursday afternoon. The man is in his 20s and the woman is in her 30s. They were taken into custody on suspicion of facilitating a criminal organization. Post-mortem examinations on the deceased have been completed, but the results will not be released for operational reasons, according to Gardaí.
Investigators are exploring the possibility that a Traveller gang leader may have ordered the deadly attack, according to local reports. This follows claims by Philip's son from a previous marriage, John James English, that gangland figures in the city had targeted his family for years over a £17,000 drug debt owed by someone known to the family.
The family's car was previously targeted with a petrol bomb approximately three weeks before the fatal attack, though no one was injured in that incident. John James English also stated that the home of his mother, Anne, Philip's ex-wife, was previously targeted in another petrol bomb attack.
Gardaí have appealed to the public, stating that individuals with knowledge of the attack are urged to come forward. Security sources have expressed concerns about the potential for further violence following the attack on the family, describing the victims as
