A 22-year-old man has admitted to killing a pensioner who died following an assault in Antrim. Marcus Fleming, of Cedarmount in Antrim, appeared before Belfast Crown Court on Tuesday and changed his plea to guilty for the manslaughter of 74-year-old Anthony Miskimmon.
Miskimmon passed away in November 2024, days after being punched and knocked unconscious on Station Road. Fleming initially denied the charge but asked to be re-arraigned before the court. He then entered a guilty plea to unlawfully killing Miskimmon.
The court was also informed that Fleming had previously pleaded guilty to two charges of causing criminal damage to a police vehicle, one on November 2, 2024, and the second on November 3, 2024.
Fleming's defense counsel indicated that a psychological report has been received and a second medical report is pending. A request was made for a pre-sentence report to be compiled by probation services, with the Crown confirming that Victim Impact Statements will also be presented. The judge has scheduled the plea hearing for October 2.
Fleming was remanded back into custody.
