A 67-year-old man has been found not guilty of the murder of Newry postal worker Frank Kerr, who was killed during a 1994 IRA robbery of the city's postal sorting office. The man, James Seamus Fox, of Carewamean Road in Jonesborough, also faced charges related to the robbery of £131,000, belonging to a proscribed organization, and possession of firearms.

Fox's diplock non-jury murder trial began in January 2024. At the time of Mr. Kerr's death in 1994, the IRA was observing a ceasefire. The charges against Fox were brought in 2019 when police re-examined items connected to the killing, which the prosecution stated revealed DNA evidence linking him to the crime.
