Man Accused of Tossing Girlfriend and Baby From Balcony Appears in Court

Angel Carrasco, 31, appeared in Bronx Criminal Court on Wednesday from a hospital bed, facing charges of second-degree murder. He is accused of fatally throwing his girlfriend, 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez, from a 15-story balcony on October 5. Their 8-month-old daughter, Angel Novalty Carrasco-Ramirez, was also thrown but miraculously survived the fall and remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.

Carrasco, who has been in a psychiatric ward since his arrest, was ordered to remain in custody by Judge Cary Fischer. A full order of protection was issued for the infant.

Law enforcement sources stated that Carrasco allegedly went to Ramirez's apartment with flowers in an attempt to reconcile after two prior domestic violence incidents involving Ramirez. According to reports, these incidents included him allegedly breaking into her apartment and slapping her. The reconciliation attempt reportedly failed, leading to an alleged fit of rage where Carrasco pushed Ramirez and their daughter from the balcony before fleeing the scene.

He was apprehended a day later by U.S. Marshals and NYPD officers. Carrasco was previously involved in two domestic violence incidents with Ramirez in January.

Carrasco faces charges including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child. If convicted of murder, he could face a life sentence. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 4.
