Daniel Sean James, 46, appeared in court Thursday, accused of breaking into a home in Hayes, west London, early Sunday morning and fatally stabbing Kirandeep Kaur, 24, as she slept. The court was told that James allegedly stabbed another man in his 20s on the street before kicking open the door of Kaur's home around 7:50 a.m. BST. Kaur's husband reported waking to his wife's scream and seeing a figure leaving the bedroom. Kaur sustained a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 8:26 a.m. BST.
James reportedly jumped from a window after the incident, sustaining broken ankles, and was apprehended by police nearby. He received hospital treatment before being taken into custody. He has been charged with Kaur's murder, as well as attempted murder and possession of a bladed article. James appeared at the Old Bailey via videolink from Wormwood Scrubs, where a plea hearing was set for October 1. He remains in custody. The court was informed of the events at the Old Bailey.
