Man Accused of Fatal Balcony Fall of Girlfriend and Baby Grins While Arrested
Angel Carrasco faces charges in the death of his girlfriend and the critical injury of their infant daughter.
Angel Carrasco, 31, appeared to flash a sinister grin as he was led away in handcuffs by authorities on Thursday, facing charges in the death of his girlfriend and the critical injury of their infant daughter. The incident occurred when Carrasco allegedly pushed Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and their 8-month-old daughter, Angel Novalty Carrasco-Ramirez, from the 15th-story balcony of their Bronx apartment building.
Ramirez died from the fall, while the infant miraculously survived and is in critical condition at Jacobi Hospital. Carrasco was apprehended by U.S. Marshals and NYPD officers on Wednesday evening.
Law enforcement sources indicated that Carrasco had arrived at Ramirez's apartment with flowers in an attempt to reconcile following two prior domestic violence incidents. These incidents included his arrest for domestic violence and charges of sending threatening text messages to another former partner. According to reports, when his attempt at reconciliation failed, Carrasco allegedly became enraged and committed the act. A neighbor reported hearing a male voice shout "Jump!" followed by a thud and a woman's cries.
Carrasco had previously been arrested in January for domestic violence incidents involving Ramirez. One of these incidents involved a broken into her apartment three days after he allegedly assaulted her for speaking with an ex-partner. He was also arrested for allegedly sending threatening text messages to another ex-girlfriend.
Ramirez, a graduate of Bronx Leadership Academy High School and a student at Baruch College, worked at Lishawn Consulting in Manhattan, where she was remembered as a "rising star" and "very hardworking."
