A man accused of burglarizing Kim Kardashian's Los Angeles home and stealing a vehicle has been ordered to undergo a mental evaluation. Trey Mendel was scheduled for arraignment on felony charges of taking a vehicle without consent and second-degree burglary on Monday in Los Angeles.
Mendel's public defender informed the court that the 27-year-old appeared to be mentally unwell during a recent visit. The judge subsequently ordered the evaluation, and Mendel's bail was set at $75,000. He is expected back in court later this month following the evaluation.
Mendel was arrested on Sunday after allegedly entering Kardashian's Hidden Hills estate and taking a staffer's vehicle for a ride within the gated neighborhood, according to reports.
Law enforcement officials responded to the approximately $60 million property around 3:45 p.m. on Sunday and took the suspect into custody at the scene. Kardashian and her four children were not at the residence at the time of the incident. They have been staying in a rental property while the mansion undergoes extensive renovations.
The estate, purchased by Kardashian and her ex-husband Kanye West for about $20 million in 2014, has been the subject of years of renovations. Kardashian retained the property after their 2022 divorce, and it is now valued at roughly $60 million. Mendel allegedly stole a 2017 Lexus GX 470 belonging to one of Kardashian's staff members. He did not appear in court for his scheduled arraignment.
