A house fire in Richmond, California, claimed the lives of three family members, including a father, his 2-year-old granddaughter, and his 5-year-old grandson, authorities said. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Sergio Rivera-Vega, has been arrested and charged with murder and arson.

Firefighters responded to the blaze Tuesday night at a home in the 200 block of 15th Street, where Rivera-Vega also resided. Upon arrival, they discovered four victims inside. Jose Rivera, 47, the suspect's father, was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other individuals, including Rivera-Vega's niece, Joline, 2, and nephew, Andrew, 5, later died from injuries sustained in the fire. The children's mother remains in critical condition.

Rivera-Vega was arrested near the scene and booked on two counts of murder and two counts of arson causing great bodily injury. His bail has been set at $2.5 million.

A GoFundMe page established by a family member described the profound grief and financial strain caused by the tragedy. "My mom and I are heartbroken and overwhelmed trying to process so much loss all at once," the fundraiser read. "We urgently need help with funeral services and burial expenses for my dad, my niece, and my nephew."

The family member noted their unemployment and the added burden of supporting the hospitalized mother while covering funeral costs. The fundraising appeal asked for donations, prayers, and shares to help the family during this difficult time.

Loved ones gathered for a private memorial outside the home on Thursday night.

The Richmond Police Department issued a statement expressing condolences to the affected family and friends, acknowledging the senseless nature of the event. Police confirmed that the investigation into the fire is ongoing.
