Mamdani Renews Call for Netanyahu's Arrest

NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani has once again called for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to be arrested, labeling him a "war criminal" and an "architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people." Mamdani's remarks come just days before Netanyahu is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly in New York.

"When it comes to Benjamin Netanyahu, I have described him as I believe him to be — a war criminal and an architect of a horrific genocide of the Palestinian people," Mamdani stated in a recent interview. He emphasized his belief in accountability, saying, "I do believe that that is something that should be honored, because what we want to see, and we’ve been talking about this today, is a faith in our politics, a faith in accountability."

Mamdani also commented on the potential for international legal action, noting, "If the International Criminal Court deems someone worthy of an arrest because of a violation of those laws, then who are we to say that anyone should be above that? And I think very clearly that everyone should be held accountable to it."

These renewed statements follow Mamdani's earlier call in July, where he urged protesters to take to the streets if Netanyahu was not arrested during his visit. The mayor has since acknowledged that he lacks the authority as mayor of New York City to effect an arrest, despite previous campaign statements.

Israel's UN Ambassador Danny Danon responded to Mamdani's earlier remarks, stating that the mayor cannot initiate calls for protests and arrests and then disavow them. "He’s very clever, but you cannot set the fire, then say this," Danon told The Post. "The mayor has called for demonstrations. So we don’t know what to expect."
